Mindful Self-Compassion

Hey everyone,

Popping in with a brief update this month and a couple of exciting things to share.

It’s been a bit of a rocky couple of weeks on the personal and business fronts. Maybe it’s just that it’s been February here in the Pacific Northwest, which, contrary to popular belief, is actually The. Longest. Month. of the year. Maybe it’s inconsistent, ADHD energy. It’s been tough to stay motivated and on-task.

What’s made a huge difference for me recently is the work of Drs. Kristin Neff and Christopher Germer on Mindful Self-Compassion. These tools have been a game-changer. Now, when things get tough, I more often have the ability to pause, show up for myself, and respond with kindness. Instead of the usual self-criticism. This shift didn’t happen overnight—it has taken a lot of practice and conscious awareness of what my body is trying to communicate. The more I practice, the easier it becomes to respond with compassion instead of judgment.

How about you? What does self-compassion look like in your life? How might it help when the challenges of ADHD start to pile up?

Here’s a meditation from the Center for Mindful Self-Compassion if you want to give it a try. https://youtu.be/nDnaUSL4mLk?si=skUHnV51U2oorKTX

A couple of updates for you:

  1. Associate Certified Coach certification: I’m so close to finishing the hours required for my certification and I plan to be ready for the exam by the end of March. If you know someone who’s been curious about coaching but hesitant to dive into an expensive program, I’m offering pay-what-you-can coaching for up to three sessions during March. Could you help me out by passing along this offer to anyone who might be interested?

  2. New ADHD Program in the Works: One of my superpowers is absorbing information from all sorts of sources and distilling it into what really matters. Over the past few years, I’ve been diving deep into how to live and thrive with ADHD, and I’m creating a program that will give you a jump-start on untangling your true, beautiful self from the masks built over a lifetime of undiagnosed ADHD. I’m so excited to share this with you soon!

What I’m reading/watching/listening to:

  • Dr. Sharon Saline, one of my favorite ADHD experts, has a new blog about the study I mentioned in last month’s email regarding ADHD and Life Expectancy. Check it out here.

  • This was an interesting expert roundtable about all things women and ADHD from Additude Magazine. https://www.additudemag.com/webinar/women-with-adhd-roundtable/

Thanks for taking a moment to read this, and for being part of my journey. If you have any thoughts or questions, feel free to reach out!
